The Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust operates both the East Surrey and the Crawley Hospitals.
East Surrey Hospital offers full Accident and Emergency facilities for an area which includes Crawley Down.
It is the centre for care of those with life-threatening conditions or those who need an operation that requires intensive care support.
The Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust has also entered into an agreement with BUPA to establish a dedicated diagnosis and treatment centre (DTC) for NHS patients using the BUPA Redwood unit co-located with East Surrey Hospital.
Day surgery, exploratory diagnostic work and orthopaedic surgery are provided, planned at times and dates convenient to patients. The separation of these planned operations from the provision of emergency surgery avoids cancellations when an emergency case takes preference. The DTC has been in operation since December 2002.
